How to Prepare for Your Studio Headshot with Me: Tips, Style, and Confidence

Hey there! Whether you’re stepping in front of the camera for the first time or updating your look for a fresh professional profile, I’m so glad you’re here. A studio headshot is more than just a photo—it’s a visual introduction, a first impression, and a way to tell the world who you are. Let’s get you ready for a confident, empowering, and comfortable session.

Here’s how to prepare and what to expect:

What to Wear:

Bring 1–2 business outfits with you to your session. This gives us the chance to see what fits best on camera and tailor your look to your goals. Here’s what photographs beautifully:

Business Attire

  • Solid colors work best. Soft, neutral, or classic jewel tones (like black, navy, forest green, rust, or cream) are great choices. These colors help keep the focus on you.

  • A well-fitted blazer or jacket is a timeless option. Pair it with a blouse, button-up, or structured top that matches your style.

  • Avoid busy prints, logos, or bold patterns. They can be distracting on camera. But if you’re shooting for your company or personal brand, logo wear and branded apparel can work great too!

  • Accessories: Keep them simple. A favorite watch, ring, or necklace is perfectly fine and adds personality without taking the spotlight.

Pro tip: If you’re going for a casual headshot, a clean, pressed T-shirt, knit sweater, or favorite neutral top can still look polished. Make sure it’s lint-free and wrinkle-free.

Makeup & Hair: Show Up Like You Want to Be Seen

Press-on nails are quick and easy! If nails is not your thing, pick long ones to wear during the photoshoot to elongate your fingers.

We want you to look like your best self—not overdone, just you on a really good day.

  • Arrive with makeup and hair done. Go for makeup that feels natural to your personality. Think skin-enhancing, not mask-making.

  • A light hairspray or styling product can help tame flyaways but still allow your hair to move freely.

  • Stick-on nails or manicured hands photograph well, especially if you use your hands during the shoot. Not required, but highly recommended if it’s your thing.

Tip: Bring your touch-up products (lip balm, powder, or brush) in case we need a little refresh between shots.

Backgrounds & Final Touches

We’ll have both grey and white studio backgrounds available for your session. These are clean, classic, and adaptable for almost every kind of use—LinkedIn, company websites, speaker bios, resumes, and more. After the shoot, you’ll have the chance to choose the backdrop and image that speaks best to your purpose.
